Working Visit of Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, to the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia, 18–19 February 2026
On 18 February 2026, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, paid a working visit to the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) in Sofia and met with Prof. Evelina Slavcheva, President of the BAS. During the meeting, the Secretary General informed Prof. Slavcheva about the current activities of PABSEC and the organisational aspects of the forthcoming 3rd Meeting of the Presidents of the Academies of Sciences of the BSEC Member States, scheduled to be held in Sofia on 15 May 2026. The relevant official invitation letters related to the upcoming event were also formalised.
Prof. Slavcheva briefed the Secretary General on the ongoing preparations for the meeting. Mr. Hajiyev reaffirmed PABSEC’s readiness to support the organisation of the event and emphasised its importance for strengthening scientific cooperation and dialogue in the Black Sea Region.
On 19 February 2026, the Secretary General met with Academician Julian Revalski, PABSEC Special Representative in the International Organizations on Science and Education. The sides discussed PABSEC activities and prospects for enhancing cooperation between the scientific institutions in the BSEC Region.
Within the framework of the visit, Mr. Hajiyev also met with Mr. Petar Kanev, PABSEC Vice-President and Head of the PABSEC Bulgarian Delegation, and Ms. Tsveta Karayancheva, Vice-Chair of the PABSEC Committee on Legal Affairs and International Cooperation. The Secretary General informed them on the current activities of the Assembly, including forthcoming committee meetings and the General Assembly to be held in Georgia in June 2026. He expressed gratitude for the constant support and valuable contribution of the Bulgarian delegation to the work of PABSEC. Mr. Kanev assured that the Bulgarian delegation would continue to actively support the Assembly’s activities.
During his visit to Sofia, the Secretary General was accompanied by Ms. Pavlina Lozanova, Secretary of the PABSEC Committee for Legal Affairs and International Cooperation.
