The PABSEC’s Participation in the Meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Foreign Affairs of the BSEC Member States, 27 November 2020
Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General took part in the 42nd Meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the BSEC Member States, which took place online on 27 November 2020.
Mr. Bogdan Aurescu, BSEC Chairman-in-Office and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, and Ambassador Michael Christides, Secretary General of the BSEC PERMIS, addressed the opening ceremony.
During the meeting, the participants exchanged views on various aspects of the Organization's activities and cooperation in the BSEC region. The Council took note of the reports of the meetings of the BSEC Committee of Senior Officials, discussed and adopted draft resolutions, decisions and recommendations submitted by the Committee of Senior Officials.
In his speech, the PABSEC Secretary General welcomed the accession of the Republic of North Macedonia to the BSEC Organization and expressed hope that soon the Parliament of this country will also become a full-fledged member of the PABSEC. The PABSEC Secretary General informed the participants about the results of the 55th and 56th PABSEC General Assemblies held in 2020, and the activities of the PABSEC Committees in the first half of 2021. Mr. Hajiyev also stressed that in a few days there will be a joint meeting between the Standing Committees of the PABSEC and the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference, during which topical issues of the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change will be discussed.
At the conclusion of the Meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania handed over the BSEC Chairmanship to the representative of the Republic of Albania, whose term of office begins on 1 January 2021 (1 January - 30 June 2021).
