The PABSEC Participation in the ICBSS Conference on “Confidence Building in the Black Sea Region”, Athens, 9 December 2019
Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General and Mr. Miltiadis Makrygiannis, PABSEC Deputy Secretary General, participated to the Conference on “Confidence Building in the Black Sea Region”, which was organized by the International Centre for Black Sea Studies (ICBSS), in cooperation with the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF), in Athens, Greece, on 9 December 2019.
The event aimed to provide a platform for dialogue for national and regional stakeholders and to stimulate the discussion on building confidence through cross-pillar actions at economic, environmental, cultural and socials levels, as well as to highlight existing actions and processes, as a tool to support dialogue and understanding among parties, and to share knowledge and best practices of confidence-building measures.
In his intervention about the parliamentary diplomacy in the Black Sea Region, the PABSEC Secretary General, presented to the participants several information about the PABSEC and its activities, underlined the important role of the Black Sea region in the world politics and, at the same time, the serious problems that the region is facing, and emphasized the need to strengthen the cooperation and the good-neighborly relations among the states. Towards this aim, the dialogue, and cooperation among parliamentarians, which are the very essence of parliamentary diplomacy, make a positive contribution to easing inter-state tensions and finding feasible solutions to complex problems, namely those in the fields of human rights, of parliamentary democracy and of the rule of law.
On the same date, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General and Mr. Miltiadis Makrygiannis, PABSEC Deputy Secretary General, paid a visit to the Ministry of Tourism of the Hellenic Republic and met with the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Mr. Manos Konsolas. Mr. Hajiyev and Mr. Konsolas discussed co-organization of a forum dedicated to the development of the tourism education and the support of tourism projects in the Black Sea region, which is planned to take place at the beginning of May 2020, in the island of Kos, the birthplace of Hippocrates, the father of medicine. There was an exchange of views about the structure of the forum and the subjects to be discussed. It was decided to continue the exchange of information on the organizational details in the coming weeks.
