PABSEC participation in the 28th Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference, Oslo, 25-27 August 2019
Mr. Mikhail Emelianov, Head of the PABSEC Russian delegation, Chairman of the PABSEC Legal and Political Affairs Committee, participated in the 28th Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference held in Oslo (Norway) on 25-27 August 2019. Mr. Emelyanov was accompanied by Mrs. Natia Gaprindashvili, Advisor to the PABSEC Secretary General - Press Secretary.
The Conference was attended by the parliamentarians from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, the Russian Federation and Sweden, as well as representatives of local legislative bodies and international organizations. The Conference debated on the cooperation in the Baltic Sea region, future of working life, safeguarding the oceans, achievement of the UN goals in the field of sustainable development until 2030, migration and integration. At the end of the Conference the participants adopted the Resolution.
In his speech, Mr. Emelianov noted that regional inter-parliamentary organizations occupy a significant place in world politics and that the parliamentary component of interstate relations is becoming increasingly important factor in solving pressing problems. He informed the participants on the current activities of the PABSEC and welcomed the strengthening of cooperation between the PABSEC and the BSPC. He stressed that the joint meeting was held in Istanbul in April 2019 and that the next joint event was planned in the framework of the Swedish Presidency in the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference in September 2020. He expressed confidence that it would be another step forward in the enhancement of inter-parliamentary cooperation.
Following the closure of the 28th Conference, the BSPC Presidency is vested with the Parliament of Lithuania. The next 29th Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference will be held in Vilnius on 22-25 August 2020.
