PABSEC Participation in the 13th Session of the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly, 10 February 2021

Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, took part in the 13th Session of the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly, which was organized online on 10 February 2021, and was chaired by Mr. Elnur Allahverdiyev, Chairman of the GUAM PA, the head of the Azerbaijani delegation to the GUAM PA.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the GUAM member states, as well as observers and guests. During the session, the following issues were discussed: Cooperation of the GUAM Member-States in the context of new global challenges; Countering the COVID-19 pandemic, its social and economic consequences; present and future prospects of conflict resolution on the territories of the GUAM Member States - new directions for cooperation; Development of inter-parliamentary cooperation - priorities of cooperation between the GUAM PA and the Baltic Assembly; Promotion of key economic projects of GUAM - new areas of cooperation. At the end of the session, the Final Communique of the 13th Session of the Parliamentary GUAM was adopted.

Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, the PABSEC Secretary General, took the floor at the Opening Ceremony on behalf of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation. He noted that democracy and economic development, which are the fundamental principles of GUAM, are topical for all international organizations, and noted the importance of dialogue and cooperation. It was noted that dialogue between parliamentarians plays an important role in strengthening interaction between countries and regional development.

At the end of the Session, the Chairmanship of the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly was transferred from the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Parliament of Georgia.
