The PABSEC Participation in the 18th Autumn Meeting of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Marrakech (Kingdom of Morocco), 4-6 October 2019
The 18th Autumn Meeting of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly was held in Marrakech (Kingdom of Morocco), on 4-6 October 2019 upon the invitation of Morocco, which is an OSCE Mediterranean Partner for Cooperation. At this meeting, the PABSEC was represented by Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General.
The Autumn meeting also included the Parliamentary Conference on “Promoting Security Across the Euro-Mediterranean Region: The Role of the OSCE and its Partners”, and the Mediterranean Forum on “North-South Cooperation Models and Economic Connectivity of the Mediterranean Region in a Globalized World”.
The opening session was addressed by Mr. George Tsereteli, President of the OSCE PA, Mr. Hakim Benchamach, President of the House of Councillors of the Kingdom of Morocco, and Mr. Mohamed Aujjar, Minister of Justice of the Kingdom of Morocco.
The Parliamentary Conference discussed the following issues: “The OSCE and the African Regional Cooperation for Innovation and the Exchange of Good Practices”, “The Euro-Mediterranean Region and the Challenges Posed by Climate Change: Economic Development and Environmental Migration”, “Combating Intolerance and Discrimination Based on Religion or Belief”.
At the closing part of the Autumn Meeting of the OSCE PA, the Conclusions were adopted.
On the side-lines of the event, the PABSEC Secretary General met with Mr. George Tsereteli, President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, and Mr. Azay Guliyev, Vice-President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. They discussed the issue of holding a joint meeting in the future dedicated to the Black Sea topic.
The Secretary General also met with Mr. Paul Cook, Assistant Secretary General of the NATO PA and Director of the Committee on Economic and Security Affairs and discussed the participation of the PABSEC representatives in the work of the upcoming NATO PA in London on 12-15 October 2019. During the conversation with Ms. Doris Barnett, former OSCE PA Treasurer, Member of the German Bundestag, and Lord Peter Spencer Bowness, member of the House of Lords of Great Britain, the issues of further enhancement of cooperation with the PABSEC were discussed.
