64th Meeting of the PABSEC Committee on Economic and Development Policy, Bucharest (Romania), 9 April 2025
The 64th Meeting of the PABSEC Committee on Economic Policy and Development was held in Bucharest (Romania) on 9 April 2025, at the invitation of the Parliament of Romania.
The Meeting was attended by the national delegations of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Türkiye and Ukraine, as well as a representative of the BSEC Permanent International Secretariat and members of the PABSEC International Secretariat. The Meeting was chaired by Mr. Oleksandr Marikovskyi, Chairman of the Committee, member of the PABSEC Ukrainian delegation.
The opening ceremony was addressed by Ms. Gianina Şerban, Vice-President of the Chamber of Deputies, Mr. Calin-Gheorghe Maties, Head of the PABSEC Romanian Delegation, Ms. Clara-Georgiana Staicu, State Secretary for European Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Mr. Oleksandr Marikovskyi Chairman of the PABSEC Committee on Economic and Development Policy, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General.
The Committee discussed the draft Report and Recommendation 202/2025 “Towards a Greener Future: Cooperation for Technology Solutions in the Black Sea Region”, which will be submitted to the 65th Plenary Session of the General Assembly.
The Committee elected Mr. Sergey Bagratyan, member of the PABSEC Armenian Delegation, as Vice-Chairman of the PABSEC Committee on Economic and Development Policy for a term of two years.
The Committee took note of the information on the activities of the BSEC Organization presented by Mr. Ashot Kocharyan, Executive Manager of the BSEC Permanent International Secretariat.
The next 65th Meeting of the Committee will be held in autumn 2025 in the Republic of Serbia. It was proposed to discuss “Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Socio-Economic Development in the BSEC Region - Economic Aspects” as the main item of the Meeting. It was decided that Mr. Fatih Donmez, PABSEC Vice-President, Head of the PABSEC Turkish Delegation will be the Rapporteur on the Report.
On the sidelines of the Committee Meeting, the PABSEC Secretary General Mr. Asaf Hajiyev met with the new PABSEC national delegation of the Romanian Parliament. Mr. Calin-Gheorghe Maties, Head of the Romanian delegation welcomed the PABSEC International Secretariat and expressed the strong commitment of the Romanian delegation to continue constructive and fruitful work within the Assembly. The PABSEC Secretary General congratulated the members of the Romanian delegation on their election in the recent parliamentary elections and noted the important contribution of the Romanian delegation at various stages of the PABSEC activities. He expressed hope that the new delegation from the Romanian Parliament will sustain cooperation rooted in the principles of constructiveness and mutual understanding. Additionally, the discussion included some organizational matters concerning the functioning of the Assembly’s bodies.
